Mrs. Josie Muse

Death Takes Local Woman

Mrs. Josie MUSE, 91, a resident of Jackson County since 1919, died Saturday night in an Altus hospital following a lengthy illness.  She had made her home iwth a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray BEACH, for the past 23 years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church.

Rev. C.L. ABERCROMBIE and Rev. Gene GARRISON will officiate.  Interment will be in Hess Cemetery under direction of Tims Funeral Home.

Mrs. MUSE was born July 11, 1876 at Whitt, Texas.  She was married to James C. MUSE on Aug 13, 1893.  They came to Jackson County in 1919.  Mrs. MUSE was preceded in death by her husband on April 4, 1933.

Mrs. MUSE was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Dan MUSE of Winslow, Arizona, Buck MUSE of Atwood and Jack MUSE of Ardmore; four daughters, Mrs. Ada WILSON and Mrs. Grace BEACH, both of Altus, Mrs. Nora MARSH of Guymon and Mrs. Della WISE of El Segundo, California; one sister, Mrs. Minnie SIMPKINS of Dimmitt, Texas, 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Robert N. "Nick" Butler

Funeral Rites Held for Nick Butler, 74, Saturday Afternoon

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Main Street. Baptist Church for Robert N. (Nick) BUTLER, 74, who died last Thursday in Carrollton at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Homer TAYLOR.  Burial was in Creagleville Cemetery.

Rev. Ira COLE of Dallas and Rev. James DIXON of Greggton officiated. Mr. BUTLER had been a member of the Baptist Church for several years. A quartet composed of Herman RUSSELL, Ray WILLIAMS, Morris BOLIN and Mrs. Bo WHITE furnished vocal music.

Pallbearers were Doran BRADBERRY, Dee RODGERS, Dee ALEXANDER, Yancy WRIGHT, Claude MCKENZIE, and Dewitt FURR.

Mr. BUTLER married Alice BOYLES in 1903.  They were parents of six children, four of whom survive. In addition to his wife, Mr. BUTLER is survived by two sons, Buck of Altus, Oklahoma, and Eddie of Grand Saline; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Josie MUSE of Elmer, oklahoma and Mrs. Minnie SIMPKINS of Dimmitt; and one brother, Alex of Hedley, Texas.

Out of town relatives attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil TROXELL, Altus, Oklahoma, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. BUTLER, Fort Worth, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde CASEY and girls, Fort Worth, Mr. ane Mrs. Edgar BLUKER.and son, Dimmitt Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph ALLEN, Dallas, mr. and Mrs. George MILLER, Vernon, Mr. Everett LASSITER, Amarillo, Ralph Miller, Fort Worth, Buddy BOYLES, Dallas, Eddie BUTLER, Dallas, Mrs. Coy LINDSEY, Mineola, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde ELLIOTT, Canton, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack CRAWFORD, Dallas.


Robert E. "Buck" Butler

Robert E. (Buck) BUTLER, 64, 702 W. Commerce, died Wednesday [January 3, 1973] at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Military services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church.  Burial will be at the American Legion section of Altus Cemetery under the direction of Tims Funeral Home.

He was born Oct. 10, 1908 at Van Zandt County, Texas, and had lived at Altus since 1927.  He was a member of the Baptist church and a veteran of World War II.  He was one of the survivors of the Bataan Death March following the fall of the Philippines and was a prisoner of war for two years.  He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Woodmen of the World and had served as county chairman of the Democratic party.

Survivors include:  his mother, Mrs. Alice BUTLER, Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Elnora KUYKENDALL, Dallas; and Mrs. Dora Lee TAYLOR, Carrollton, Texas; several nieces, nephews and cousins including Mrs. Lola TROXELL and Mrs. Ada WILSON, with whom he had made his home.

Funeral services for Daniel Whitten MUSE, 73 who died in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tucson Thursday morning, April 23, [1970] were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ 614 Warren Ave. Winslow, [Arizona] with Don HOLLAND, Minister, officiating.  Burial will be in the Desert View Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Services.

Mr. MUSE, a barber by trade, was born in Texas and came to Winslow in 1966. He was a veteran of World War No. 1 and a member of various Masonic Orders.

He is survived by his wife Esther, of Winslow, a daughter, Mrs. Gearline WEISHAAR, of Winslow; Two Grandchildren, Miss Barbara CHOLAS, of Gallup NM and Mr. Jimmie Dan DAVIS, of Tucson; Two brothers and four sisters, living out of state.

Scoot Chapel was in charge of the services.

Ada Mae Muse Wilson Gordon

Mrs. Ada WILSON GORDON 72 of 513 Chris died Monday at the Ardmore Memorial Hospital.  Services are scheduled for 10 am. Wednesday at Tims Chapel of Memories with the Rev. C. I. ABERCROMBIE officiating.  Burial will be at Altus Cemetery  under the direction of Tims Funeral Home.

Born December 13 1902 at Cleburne, Texas, she had lived at Altus since 1959.  She married Willie GORDON in 1973 and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.  Survivors include her husband of the home; four sons, Bob WILSON of Healton; Cecil WILSON, Paul WILSON, and Gary WILSON, all of Altus, two daughters, Pauline GRIDER of Altus and Linda TATE of Pueblo, Colorado, three sisters Nora MARSH of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Della WISE of El Segundo, California, and Grace BEACH of Altus, 24 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Grace Millie Ann Muse Beach

Grace Millie Ann MUSE BEACH, 84 died Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. BEACH was born October 21, 1914 in Burneyville, Love County, Oklahoma to Jackson County Pioneers, James Claudius MUSE and Malissia Josephine BUTLER MUSE.

On November 3, 1945 she married James Ray BEACH, in Vernon, Wilbarger County, Texas.  They wee known as Aunt Grace and Uncle Ray to many generations of family as well as friends.  Mrs. BEACH was a life long member of the Hess Baptist Church.  Her life was a living testament to the Lord.

She is survived by a large loving family that will grieve the loss of a wonderful woman, yet rejoice her return to the Father's arms.  Aunt Grace meant so much to so many, she will be missed.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray BEACH; parents, James Claudius MUSE and Malissia Josephine BUTLER MUSE, seven brothers, and six sisters, Daniel Whitten MUSE, Ada Mae WILSON, James Olen "Buck" MUSE, M.L. Malissia Nora HENDERSON, Della Queenie Ethel WISE, J.C. Roland "Jack" MUSE.

Della Quennie Ethel Muse Wise

Della MUSE WISE, 87 formerly of Altus, died Thursday, July 23, 1998, in Torrance, California.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Douglas Mortuary in el Segundo, California.

WISE was born June 21, 1911 in Vera, Texas to Jackson County pioneers James Claudius and Malissia Josephine MUSE.  She was raised in Hess and graduated from Hess Schools where she captained her basketball team to the Oklahoma state title game.

She married John Benjamin WISE in 1932.  They moved to El Segundo, California more than 50 years ago.  She was an active member of her community, church, the Rotary Anns and Jaycees.

WISE is survived by her husband, Johnnie WISE; her children Cheryl COOPER, Norman, J.B. WISE and his wife Terry, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Terry WISE, El Segundo, California, Dani WHITNEY, Carson City, Nevada and Keith Ray WISE, El Segundo, California; a sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Ray BEACH, Altus; two sisters-in-law, Opal J. WISE, Marina Del Rey, California and Flo DAY, Pomona, California; 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, five sisters, her eldest daughter Jacque WISE, Altus and youngest daughter Rebecca WISE.

Lola Mae TROXELL, 72, died Thursday [November 29, 1990] at the Edmond Memorial Hospital in Edmond.

Services are scheduled for Monday, 10 a.m. at the Village Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, with the Rev. Ted KERSH [and Rev. Keith WIGINTON of Altus] officiating .  Burial will be at the Restlawn Cemetery [Altus, Oklahoma] under the directions of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.  Baggerly Funeral Home, Edmond, is in charge of out-of-town arrangements.

TROXELL was born May 19, 1918 in Boswell to William BUTLER and Ombrey BUTLER.  She was preceded in death by her husband in March of 1977.

Survivors include one son, Bill TROXELL, Edmond; one daughter, Betty TROXELL, Edmond; one granddaughter, Cecilia Mae TROXELL, of the home in edmon; two sisters, Dorothy CASEY SATLER, Texas and Velma MCGUIRE, Duncanville, Texas; two brothers, J.W. GRAND SALINE - Services for Mrs. Alice N. BUTLER, 94, Grand Saline, are set for 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Main Street Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Pesnell officiating.

Burial will be in Creagleville Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Mrs. BUTLER died in a Garland hospital Saturday.

She was a native of Grand Saline and lived most of her life there. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elnora KUYKENDALL, Dallas; one brother, John M. BOYLES, Grand Saline; one sister, Mrs. Bertie MILLER, Grand Saline; one son-in-law; Homer C. TAYLOR, Edgewood; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bennett Gordon Died at Ardmore

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Baptist Church for Mrs. Minnie GORDON, 48 years old, wife of Bennett GORDON of Ardmore, former residents of Elmore several years ago.

Mrs. GORDON passed away Monday night after a sudden illness at her home in Ardmore. The remains were brought here by the Harvey Brothers funeral directors who were in charge of arrangements. Services were conducted by Rev. WILBANK, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ardmore assisted by Rev. LOWE, pastor of the Baptist church here. Interment was made in the Elmore cemetery. A large crowd of friends and neighbors accompanied the remains to the cemetery.

Minnie MUSE was born near Mt. Vernon, Arkansas, December 21, 1889. Coming to what is now Garvin county in early girlhood with her parents. In 1909 she was married to L .B. GORDON here at Elmore where they lived for a number of years, later moving to Wynnewood. Since leaving Wynnewood they have lived in nearby cities in the state. She became a member of the Baptist church early in life and ahs been an active worker since.

Survivors are her husband, L. Bennett GORDON, on son Loy GORDON of Wichita Falls, Texas and a daughter, Minnie Lee of the home address, one grandchild, three sisters and five brothers, Mrs. Maudie LINER of Lubbock, Tex., Mrs. Ollie PLUMLEE of Springtown, Texas, and Mrs. Virgie WOOD of Elmore, John MUSE of Waco, Texas, Will MUSE of Olton, Texas, Oscar and Tavner MUSE of Marietta and Sam MUSE of Elmore and a host of other relatives.

Among the friends and relatives from out of town who were present for services other than the immediate family were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar MUSE and children and Tavner MUSE of Marietta, Mrs. Ollie PLUMLEE of Springtown, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Raymond PLUMLEE of Fort Worth, Mrs. Nettie KINCAID and family of Ardmore, Mrs. Andy GLENN, Mrs. Laura WORLEY, Mrs. TERRY, Mrs. KINCAID and Miss Juanita KINCAID of Wynnewood.

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max HERSCHMAN of Hewitt died in a Waco hospital Saturday.

Funeral services were held at the graveside at Rosemound (sic) Cemetery at 4 P.M. Saturday, Rev. Auburn NEELEY, pastor of the Methodist Church at Hewitt, officiating.

Survivors: Parents, one sister Nora Merle (sic), one brother, Max HERSCHMAN, Jr.; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha MCFARLAND (sic) of Waco, and maternal grandfather V. G. RUSSELL of Dallas, maternal grandfather, Ed HERSCHMAN of Vernon, Texas.

Funeral Services for S. M. Muse

Funeral Services were held Monday afternoon at 3o'clock for S. M. MUSE at the Methodist Church with Eluis LANDON Church of Christ Minister of Healdton officiating.

Mr. MUSE had spent most of his life near Elmore. Coming here in early manhood, he was 67 years old, being County Commissioner of Garvin County. He had lots of friends in this community. He leaves to mourn his death.
