The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:
- genealogy technology
- finds documents containing 'genealogy' or 'technology'
- genealogy or technology
- functions the same as the query example above
- genealogy and technology
- finds documents containing both 'genealogy' and 'technology'
- genealogy not technology
- finds documents containing 'genealogy' but not 'technology'
- (genealogy not technology) and WAIS
- finds documents containing 'WAIS', plus 'genealogy' but not 'technology'
- web*
- finds documents containing words starting with 'web'
